Bordered by Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger, Benin has a 121-kilometer-long coastline on the Gulf of Guinea. Its economy is mainly reliant on agriculture, along with formal and informal reexport and transit trade with Nigeria. Benin’s vulnerability to climate change is due to its economy's high dependence on agriculture. As the sector is largely undiversified, it is extremely vulnerable to external shocks, such as rising sea levels, increased severe and destructive flooding, and recurring droughts.
