Kazakhstan is a landlocked country located in Central Asia. It shares borders with Russia, China, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyz Republic. The Caspian Sea forms a natural boundary to the west. The country is vulnerable to glacial and rainfall mudflows, which present a significant danger for populated areas situated near glaciers. Based on the projected increase in torrential precipitation, the frequency of mudflow events might increase. Unusually warm days and heavy rains have also caused serious flooding.
