Nigeria, located along the inner corner of the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, shares borders with Benin, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Nigeria is vulnerable to floods, storms, ocean surges, droughts, and wildfires. Low-income households are the most vulnerable to weather-related natural disasters, as agriculture is the main source of income for 80 percent of the rural poor. The rapid rise of urbanization and urban poverty, with populations concentrated in the coastal areas, have also increased potential flood risk.
