Picture of Nigeria

Nigeria

Nigeria, located along the inner corner of the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, shares borders with Benin, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Nigeria is vulnerable to floods, storms, ocean surges, droughts, and wildfires. Low-income households are the most vulnerable to weather-related natural disasters, as agriculture is the main source of income for 80 percent of the rural poor. The rapid rise of urbanization and urban poverty, with populations concentrated in the coastal areas, have also increased potential flood risk.

INVESTING IN NIGERIA

Picture of Nigeria

CIF’s investment in Nigeria is through its Clean Technology Fund (CTF). Nigeria's investment program is aimed at contributing to national strategies for sustainable, low-carbon development. Projects include new sustainable transport options in the city of Lagos, and a financing facility to catalyze private-sector investments for renewable energy and energy efficiency across various industries.

Through the CIF-Technical Assistance Facility, tapproximately $200,000 was programmed for technical assistance activities in 2021. The program covered an array of activities that supported distributed solar PV in urban regions.
