Indigenous Peoples and local communities play a critical role in protecting and managing forests and land sustainably. Their leadership and access to climate finance reduce deforestation and emissions while improving biodiversity and livelihoods. Despite their crucial role, they receive limited climate finance and seek more direct access.
In this session, the four multilateral climate funds (MCFs) will present their strategies for directly reaching Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Following this, Indigenous and local leaders from the developing world will share their experiences with direct climate finance and discuss their vision for innovative financing solutions. They will explore ways to mobilize new funding sources for nature, scale up successful projects, and continue empowering local action.
