The “Integrating Renewables Through Regional Initiatives”, discussion on October 8, 2024 brought together experts from regional renewable energy integration initiatives, including the ELMED Project between Tunisia and Italy and various examples from the Association of Southeast Asian Nation's (ASEAN) Centre for Energy.
The session forms part of CIF’s Renewable Energy Integration (REI) Learning Platform (LP) launched last year to generate, apply, and share learning on renewable energy integration across developing countries, especially those without active investment plans under CIF’s REI Investment Program. The discussion will draw on the technical expertise of government representatives, multilateral development bank (MDB) partners, as well as sector stakeholders to explore the challenges and opportunities of integrating renewables through regional initiatives.
During the last in-person learning platform technical workshop in Hammamet, Tunisia in May 2024, a survey among participants found that their overwhelming interest is to know more about clean energy integration and the regional linkage some countries are advancing. Other topics of interest highlighted by the survey include mobilizing private finance and how to better enhance the climate resilience of energy systems.
