Oct 15, 2021

October 15, at 8am EST The Climate Investment Fund (CIF) will host a second round of an ongoing dialogue with youth on how CIF can better engage young people in its governance and operations - with a vision for a comprehensive strategy for engaging youth.

The role and influence of youth in climate advocacy has been growing worldwide since the early 2000s. However, youth have distinctive needs and modes of communication, and there is a need for a unique action plan that can help CIF engage and support youth climate advocacy. Currently, CIF has been working on a consultation note called “Towards a Youth Engagement Strategy (YES),” which includes feedback and recommendations from youth groups and climate leaders. The consultation note defines focus areas, priorities, and opportunities for youth engagement with the goal to promote outreach to youth, partnerships with and among young people, youth inclusion in CIF governance and operations, and youth capacity-building for climate action.

In February 2021, CIF held a technical peer review and completed its first draft. Tomorrow's event will continue the conversation with youth leaders and groups on how young people can be better engaged in climate finance. The comments and inputs from this second meeting will be incorporated into the final draft of the consultation note, and will be launched on November 5, 2021 at CIF’s event on Youth Day at COP26.
