The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) and Climate Strategies have launched a Just Transition Planning Masterclass for African Policymakers.
While there’s a growing understanding and appreciation for the need for a just transition to a low-carbon and resilient society, a key challenge for many countries and stakeholders is how to make just transitions happen. Overcoming complex upfront planning which must consider a wide range of challenges and activities, requires a diverse set of expertise and extensive stakeholder involvement.
These workshops are designed to empower decision makers with the tools and insights needed to plan fair and socially inclusive climate transitions. Crafted as a series of four virtual webinars and one in-person meeting, the Masterclass sessions include almost 30 participants from Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, and Uganda who represent government bodies and civil society organizations (CSOs). Together, they form a diverse cohort poised to drive change and champion their national just transitions.
The Masterclass sessions conducted in partnership with Climate Strategies will run from May to September 2024. They provide a collaborative space for learning and exchange with across national ministries, civil society organizations, experts, climate funds and other development partners. By the end of the Just Transition Planning Masterclass, participants will be able to:
While access to the Masterclass series is currently for invited participants, written resources from the program will be made available over time on both the CIF and Climate Strategies websites.
