Algeria, located in northwestern Africa, is the largest country in Africa. It is bordered by Morocco, Mali, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritania, Niger, Western Sahara, and the Mediterranean Sea. The majority of the country is made up of desert, with the Ahaggar mountains covering an extensive area to the East. Over 34 percent of the population live in rural areas, with a heavy concentration in the coastal area. Due to a gradual decline in rainfall, it is vulnerable to droughts and increasingly frequent floods.
