The Forest Investment Program (FIP) helps reverse the impact of human actions and climate change on forest ecosystems, through empowering governments and local communities to sustainably address the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation.
People and forests
Our forests support and stabilize life everywhere. Covering nearly one third of all land on earth, they are irreplaceable biodiversity heavens, a renewable resource for rural livelihoods, and vast carbon sinks.
Each year, we lose millions of hectares of forests to agricultural expansion, infrastructure development, destructive logging, and fires. Deforestation and forest degradation create 11% of all greenhouse gas emissions globally, gravely threaten Indigenous groups and local communities, and destroy ecosystem services that we all depend on.
FIP grants and low-interest loans are designed to help governments, communities, and business stakeholders work together to find solutions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage forests. The result is a triple win for nature, climate, and development.
