The Clean Technology Fund (CTF) supports the piloting and scale-up of promising low-carbon technologies in developing countries, through low-cost finance for renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport, and green industry projects.
Accelerating innovation
Without urgent intervention, the fastest-growing sources of global greenhouse gas emissions globally are set to be the energy and industry sectors in developing countries.
Innovative technologies exist with the potential to cut emissions at scale where it matters most. Through country-led investment plans, the $5.2 billion CTF helps get cutting-edge, clean energy projects off the ground, opening new markets, boosting investor confidence, and unlocking additional sources of finance. This approach has enabled our partner multilateral investment banks to deploy pioneering investment strategies and instruments, achieving an unparalleled 1:10 co-financing ratio and delivering emission reductions of 32.4 Mt CO2 annually (as of 2023).
